At it's heart, Wordpress is a fairly simple blog engine with the ability to be extended. It's extensions however are where it comes into it's own with plugins available to create calendars, photo galleries and even full ecommerce systems. It is a perfect system for individual bloggers, but with just a little extra work it becomes a powerful CMS which major companies like Wired, Ebay and Mashable use. Many of our clients start using Wordpress for ease of use, but continue to use it when they grow into needing large ecommerce websites.
